We encourage all women and their partners to research midwifery and out-of-hospital birth. There are many studies that indicate out-of-hospital birth with a certified professional birth is as safe as hospital birth for the mother and newborn. In addition, women report many benefits related to midwifery care.
Citizens for Midwifery – a national group supporting midwives
Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) – national association of midwives
Childbirth Connection – resources related to pregnancy and childbirth
We recommend reading this annotated guide to the literature before reading literature about home birth.
